FDA confirms Coperion recycling technology for food-grade rHDPE and rPP - Chemical Engineering
Coperion Gmbh (Stuttgart, Germany) has received a Letter of No Objection (LNO) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its high-density
Food-grade recycled polypropylene and HDPE continue to gain momentum.
Coperion recently received an FDA Letter of No Objection (LNO) for its recycling technology, confirming that rHDPE and rPP produced through its process can be used in direct food-contact applications, including packaging with up to 100% recycled content.
This is significant because food-grade recycled polyolefins have historically been more difficult to produce than recycled PET due to the strict decontamination requirements involved.
As more technologies achieve FDA acceptance, the industry moves closer to expanding the use of recycled content in products such as milk jugs, food containers, trays, cups, and other packaging applications.
Developments like this could help increase demand for recycled HDPE and PP while creating new opportunities across the plastics recycling value chain.
